I am sure you can recall a time in your life when you’ve been told to “just let it go.” The words sound so simple coming from someone else but the complexity is in the how. Wanting to let go but not knowing exactly where to begin. Through my own experience I’ve learned that letting go isn’t something that you master over night. It comes from practice, over and over again. Starting with letting go of smaller things in your life that no longer serve you; outgrowing clothes, people and jobs. Building on one another until you no longer find fear in setting something free. You practice the art of letting go until you understand yourself to the core.

The how is to sit in those moments when you’re uncomfortable. When you feel a rush of emotions coming over you. Honor that to yourself, to give yourself the space to feel these emotions. Because the only way to let go is to face those emotions head on. There is no way to snap your fingers and set it free. There is no magic way around it. Your only option is through. Yes it will be difficult, yes it will be uncomfortable. But my goodness...there is nothing more liberating than finally being free.

You find peace when you know yourself to the core. It is the trust and acceptance in yourself to know what and who is good for your being. It’s understanding that the baggage of emotions you’ve carried are not meant to weigh you down. It is in the power of no longer questioning the validity of your emotions, rather welcoming each one as they arise. It’s learning to accept and appreciate all past versions of yourself. Understanding these past versions do not define your entire being, rather mindfully contributed to the exact person you are now. They have served their purpose in reaching this exact version of you. And now it’s time to lovingly and compassionately embrace their presence and say, "Thank you...you are free to go home now." And that is the practice of letting it go. The contentment of releasing your past. Because there is nothing more magical than finding your peace.
